Tisza Party Secures Constitutional Majority, Urges Swift Parliament Session

Peter Magyar’s Tisza party won 138 seats in Hungary’s parliament following Sunday’s elections and is calling on President Tamas Sulyok to promptly convene the new legislature.

Tisza Gains Majority, Magyar Appeals to President

Peter Magyar, leader of the Tisza party, appealed to Hungarian President Tamas Sulyok on Monday to immediately convene the inaugural session of parliament.

The party, with nearly 99 percent of votes counted from Sunday’s elections, secured 138 seats in the 199-member parliament.

Projected Final Results and Call for Action

Magyar stated that they anticipate slight gains, potentially reaching 141 or 142 mandates once all election results are finalized, during a press conference in Budapest.

He urged the President not to delay the parliamentary inauguration until the latest possible date of May 12, but to convene the session as quickly as possible, emphasizing Hungary’s challenging situation in numerous areas.

Election Results Breakdown

Based on results from almost 99 percent of the counted votes, TISZA is projected to hold 138 seats in the 199-seat Hungarian parliament, granting it a two-thirds constitutional majority.

The Fidesz-KDNP coalition, led by Viktor Orbán, received 55 seats. The far-right Mi Hazank party is also expected to enter parliament with six seats.

Nearly 80 percent of eligible voters participated in the election, totaling almost 6 million people. (PAP)
