Hungarian parliamentary elections on April 12th indicate a strong showing for the Tisza party, potentially enabling constitutional changes and unlocking EU funds.
Projected Parliament Composition
Estimates by Median suggest the ruling Fidesz party, led by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, will secure between 49 and 55 seats in the upcoming parliament.
The far-right MiHazánk party could gain five to six seats, potentially entering parliament as the sole political force outside the major parties.
Favorable Polls for Tisza
Recent polling data indicates favorable results for Peter Magyar’s Tisza party.
Constitutional Changes and EU Funds
Reuters reports that a significant victory for Tisza in the April 12th parliamentary elections would allow the party to amend the constitution and enact legislation necessary to release EU funds.
A qualified majority of 133 seats in the National Assembly is required to change the constitution.
Shifting Voter Support
In recent weeks, independent polls have shown Tisza’s support ranging from 49 to 58 percent among decided voters, while Fidesz’s support has fluctuated between 35 and 38 percent.
Research also indicates growing support for the opposition and declining popularity for the ruling party.
Government-affiliated polls, however, show a lead for Fidesz by several percentage points.
Hungarian Election Details
