Toddler Dies in Nursery Incident Near Warsaw

A two-year-old child died on Wednesday afternoon in Ząbki after being found in a garden pond located on the nursery premises, prompting an investigation by the Wołomin District Prosecutor’s Office.

Detentions and Investigation

Two nursery caregivers, aged 53 and 48, were detained following the death of the toddler on May 20. Prosecutor Karolina Staros confirmed that the women were sober at the time of the incident.

Legal proceedings are currently underway, involving witness interviews and the collection of facility documentation. While the caregivers were initially held for questioning, the prosecutor noted that their status could change depending on the evidence gathered.

Circumstances of the Tragedy

The child was discovered in a pond situated on the nursery’s property. Initial medical examinations showed no signs of external injuries related to the death. Despite immediate resuscitation attempts by staff, police officers, and paramedics, the boy could not be saved.

The Wołomin District Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation under Article 155 of the Penal Code, concerning the involuntary causation of death.

Facility Oversight and Support

Ząbki Mayor Małgorzata Zyśk stated that the private facility had undergone its annual routine inspection. Following the tragedy, authorities plan to intensify oversight of all non-public nurseries in the area.

Psychological support has been provided to the parents of the deceased child and the staff members involved.
