Toddler Dies in Tragic Incident at Ząbki Daycare

A two-year-old child died on Wednesday afternoon in Ząbki, near Warsaw, after being found in a water feature on a property adjacent to the daycare facility where they were being cared for.

Fatal incident in Ząbki

Emergency services were called to a local daycare on Wednesday, May 20, to assist with the resuscitation of a two-year-old child. Despite the efforts of the caregivers, police officers who arrived within five minutes, and arriving paramedics who worked for several dozen minutes to restore vital functions, the child was pronounced dead shortly after 5:00 PM.

Ongoing investigation and municipal oversight

Małgorzata Zyśk, the mayor of Ząbki, stated that the facility had undergone its routine annual inspection. She noted that oversight of private daycare centers will be intensified in light of the tragedy and that officials will examine the circumstances of the incident more closely.

Circumstances of the tragedy

According to unofficial reports, the toddler fell into a pond located on a property bordering the daycare. Authorities are investigating how the child managed to access the adjacent plot while reportedly playing outdoors at the facility while awaiting pickup by parents.

Support for those affected

The District Prosecutor’s Office in Wołomin has launched an investigation to clarify all circumstances surrounding the child’s death. Both the parents of the deceased child and the daycare staff are currently receiving psychological support.
