Evacuation Efforts Underway
A charter boat ran aground near Kazimierz Dolny on the Vistula River on Sunday (August 24) around 5:00 PM, trapping several tourists. Authorities have initiated an evacuation operation to rescue people from the stranded vessel.
Family Groups Among Those Affected
Among those on board were families with children. Police and firefighters arrived at the scene to assist. The evacuation process may take longer due to the river’s low water levels, according to RMF FM.
Hydrological Drought Across Poland
According to a report from the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW), nearly all of Poland is experiencing a hydrological drought, excluding the Pomeranian and Kuyavian-Pomeranian regions. In Puławy, near Kazimierz Dolny, the Vistula River measured 76 cm, while the absolute minimum in that area is 73 cm. No drought conditions are reported near Olsztyn, though a flood warning is in effect for the Szczecin Lagoon. Moderate fire risk warnings are active in most of Poland’s forests, with lower risks in the northern regions and the northern part of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, where a first-level warning for heavy rainfall has been issued.
