Two children hospitalized after Toyota and Volkswagen collide at Okęciu intersection on Saturday.
Accident Details
A collision between two cars occurred on Saturday, January 17, at approximately 14:20 at the intersection of Wirażowa and Zarankiewicza Streets in Okęciu. A Toyota and Volkswagen were involved in the collision.
Emergency Response
Firefighters, a medical rescue team, and police were dispatched to the scene. Firefighters secured the area, and the injured individuals were handed over to the care of rescuers.
Medical assistance was provided to two children traveling in the Volkswagen – they were then transported to the hospital, but according to the information provided, this was primarily a preventive intervention.
Investigation Underway
According to preliminary findings regarding the course of the event, the driver of the Toyota, traveling along Wirażowa Street from the direction of Poleczki, while turning left, allegedly obstructed the path of the Volkswagen driver.
Further actions at the scene were carried out by officers from the Warsaw Road Traffic Department, who documented the event and established its exact circumstances.
Intersection History
There is a traffic light at the intersection, but as stated, it has been turned off for years and operates in emergency mode, displaying only a flashing yellow light. Despite this, traffic in this area usually flows smoothly, and traffic intensity is low.
Interestingly, the intersection itself was used as a set for one of the scenes in Wojciech Smarzowski’s film “Drogówka” and was the backdrop for a serious fatal car accident caused by a drunk driver.
Later, in 2013, a real fatal accident occurred there, where traces of the incident are still imprinted on the viaduct pillar. At that time, 59-year-old Wacław Nycz died – a world-class airplane pilot, three-time gold medalist (1985, 1987, 1992) in world and European championships in precision airplane flying.
Recently, at the end of October, a serious accident also occurred at this location.
