On Thursday, 16 October, 63‑year‑old Argentine politician Hernán Damiani was participating in a live television program. At some point he lost consciousness. Immediate assistance was offered, and an ambulance arrived within minutes. Despite transport to hospital, he could not be saved and died of a heart attack, according to media reports.

Party Pays Tribute

Damiani’s former party, the Radical Civic Union, posted an online message mourning his death. The party said, “We mourn a great activist and leader who died defending his ideas in debate.” They recalled his role as a provincial and national parliamentarian and his key role in opposing the administration of former president Carlos Menem in the 1990s. They added, “We are with his family and friends.”

Political Career

Damiani was a lawyer by trade and a long‑time leader of the Radical Civic Union. La Nación highlighted that he “excelled at building political consensus,” and that his career “was marked by radical commitment and sacrifice for the public good.”
