Tragic Christmas Eve Crash: Driver Attempted Escape, One Person Killed

A fatal roadside collision occurred on December 25 on Warsaw’s Al. Prymasa Tysiąclecia, where a 22‑year‑old Mercedes driver crashed into a Toyota, then tried to flee, killing one passenger.

Incident Details

Shortly before midnight on Thursday, December 25, a collision took place on the Al. Prymasa Tysiąclecia in Warsaw’s Wola district, just before a tunnel heading toward Ochota. A 22‑year‑old driver of a Mercedes struck a Toyota that then hit safety barriers, a streetlight, and a viaduct support; the Mercedes stalled against the tunnel wall.

Victims and Rescue

The Toyota carried a 62‑year‑old driver and two passengers, aged 31 and 66. All were trapped after the crash. Firefighters extricated the occupants; the 66‑year‑old showed no vital signs and was taken to hospital, where she later died. The 62‑year‑old and the 31‑year‑old received medical treatment at the same facility.

Alcohol Findings

Breath tests revealed the 22‑year‑old Mercedes driver had nearly two blood‑alcohol per mille, while the Toyota driver was sober. The intoxicated driver also attempted to flee the scene, was captured by witnesses, handed over to police, and is now under prosecutor scrutiny.

Aftermath and Investigation

The portion of Al. Prymasa Tysiąclecia toward Ochota was closed for emergency work. The incident remains under investigation by the prosecutor’s office.
