On Saturday, 22 November around 19:00, a police chase on Poland’s S3 ended tragically when a drunken truck driver struck a policeman and died at the scene.
Police Receive Report of Drunk Driver
In the evening of Saturday, 22 November, police received a report that a truck headed southbound on the S3 toward Gorzów Wielkopolski was being driven under the influence of alcohol. Operators noted that the driver’s style posed a danger to other road users and that he was also damaging roadside barriers during the drive.
Chase of the Truck
Officers decided to intercept the driver, locating him near Międzyrzecze Zachód. The truck had a damaged rear lighting bar. The driver ignored both visual and auditory signals, prompting a pursuit that moved to Skwierzyna Południe where an additional patrol joined and ultimately succeeded in safely stopping the vehicle.
Tragic Conclusion of the Chase
When the driver refused to comply with commands, officers attempted to extract him from the cab. During the intervention, the truck collided with an officer and the driver, resulting in the driver’s immediate death and the officer sustaining leg injuries. A prosecutor was called to the scene, and authorities are investigating all circumstances of the incident.
