Tragic End to ‘Bossman’s’ Search After Barge Fall; Body Recovered From Vistula

On Monday, 22 December, the body of Łukasz R., known as “Bossman,” was found in the Vistula River near Warsaw after he fell off a barge the night before.

Discovery and Immediate Response

On 22 December, a passerby noticed a body in the Vistula between the Silesian‑Dąbrowa and Gdańsk bridges on the city side of the river. The individual immediately notified authorities, prompting the dispatch of fire and river police units to the scene.

The body was located on a rocky reef, where it remained submerged until the rescue team arrived.

Forensic Investigation

Police and the fire brigade worked together while a forensic technician supervised by a prosecutor examined the site. The remains were secured at the Institute of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy to determine the cause and circumstances of death.

Background of the Incident

Łukasz R., a 43‑year‑old man affectionately called “Bossman” by friends, had been missing since early December.

He vanished on the night of 5–6 December following a party on a barge, during which he fell over the side into the water.

Search Efforts and Police Actions

Friends of the missing man alerted authorities and began their own search of the Vistula the following day, but the body was not discovered until a week later.
