TRAGIC END TO SEARCH FOR 18-YEAR-OLD FROM KROSNO; AUTOPSY CONFIRMS HYPOTHERMIA

An 18-year-old high school student from Krosno died of hypothermia after disappearing on February 2, with police finding her body near the airport the next day.

A teenager, a high school student in Krosno (Podkarpackie Voivodeship), disappeared on February 2. For almost a day, her family searched for her without police assistance. The girl was not answering her phone.

Officers began searching after a report was filed on Tuesday, February 3. The body of the 18-year-old was found near the airport in Krosno overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday. The District Prosecutor’s Office in Krosno began an investigation into the intentional causing of death of an 18-year-old resident of Krosno.

Autopsy Results

Officials reported that an autopsy was performed on the 18-year-old. It showed that the cause of death was hypothermia. The prosecutor thus excluded the involvement of third parties in the incident.

In Krosno on the day of the student’s disappearance, the temperature was around -8°C. At night, it was around -15°C.

From November 2025 to February, 43 people in Poland died due to hypothermia – according to data from the National Police Headquarters. In November – four people, in December – five, in January – 28, and in February (up to February 9) – six.

In their communications, officers remind that snow, frost and low temperatures in a short time can lead to hypothermia. “It is a real threat to health and life” – emphasizes the police. People without a place of residence, lonely people and the elderly are particularly at risk of hypothermia.

The threat also affects people under the influence of alcohol. The police add that vigilance and quick reaction can prevent tragedies. Any potentially dangerous or worrying situation should be reported to the services.
