Three people died and one was injured after a fire engulfed an abandoned wooden building in Skarżysko-Kamienna early Wednesday morning.
Fire Reported Early Wednesday
A report of a fire in a wooden, abandoned building came in to emergency services around 5:30 AM on Wednesday, March 4. Senior Capt. Marcin Bajur, press spokesperson for the Świętokrzyskie Fire Department, confirmed the information, cited by local media. Four fire brigades were dispatched to the scene.
Three Fatalities Confirmed
Firefighters recovered three unconscious people from the burning building and handed them over to a medical rescue team. Unfortunately, a doctor confirmed the deaths of two men and one woman, stated Senior Capt. Marcin Bajur. Marcin Fudalej, duty officer at the Provincial Coordination Center for Rescue Services, also reported three deaths. Despite prompt resuscitation, the lives of the victims could not be saved.
Abandoned Building
According to services, the wooden building was vacant and no one was permanently registered there.
One Person Injured
During rescue operations, assistance was also provided to a man who had left the burning building on his own before firefighters arrived. Local media reported that he had left the scene with body burns and was then cared for by a medical rescue team.
Investigation Underway
Services report that the smoldering remains are being extinguished. The cause of the fire will be determined by a fire expert. Police are conducting proceedings under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office to clarify the exact circumstances of the tragedy.
