According to preliminary information, the train from Szczecin to Chełm consisted of 35 cars in total, and no injuries were reported in the incident.
Preliminary findings indicate that eight cars derailed during the journey. Six of them fell from a multi-meter embankment, while two remained derailed near the tracks. Firefighters have been working at the scene overnight, securing the area and conducting reconnaissance for potential diesel fuel leaks. More than 24 fire brigade units are involved in the operations, including forces from Warsaw and Piaseczno County. Specialized chemical and ecological support from Warsaw’s JRG 6 has also been deployed.
Investigation and Impact
Simultaneously, the scale of damage is being assessed, and threats related to the cargo are being evaluated. The site is being secured by the Railway Protection Service. Further actions will be taken by police and railway services, which will investigate the causes and circumstances of the derailment. At this time, no information has been provided on what may have caused the incident.
Due to track damage and the need to remove derailed cars, significant disruptions to railway traffic are expected in the area of the incident.
