A train collided with a truck at a level crossing near Garbatka on Monday, May 25, at approximately 3:00 PM, resulting in one fatality, eighteen injuries, and a fire.
Collision and Casualties
The accident occurred on Monday, May 25, at approximately 3:00 PM. Following the impact, the truck caught fire. The Provincial Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Poznań confirmed that over a dozen people were on board the train.
Tragically, one passenger died in the incident. In total, eighteen individuals sustained injuries and required medical attention.
Site Conditions and Emergency Response
Anna Znajewska-Pawluk of the PKP press team stated that the collision took place at a category D railway crossing, which is protected by a “Stop” sign and a St. Andrew’s cross.
At least 11 units from the State Fire Service and Volunteer Fire Brigades are currently operating at the scene. Emergency medical teams and air ambulances from the LPR (Polish Medical Air Rescue) have been deployed to provide aid and transport the injured.
Operational Disruptions and Investigation
The incident occurred on the route connecting Poznań and Piła, causing a derailment of part of the train and a complete blockage of the line. Long-distance trains have been diverted, while local connections are being served by replacement bus services.
The State Fire Service is currently securing the site and conducting firefighting operations. Infrastructure Minister Dariusz Klimczak announced on X that the State Commission for Railway Accident Investigation will determine the causes of the collision.
