A passenger train traveling from Kraków to Gdynia struck a man near Grodzisk Mazowiecki station on Friday evening, resulting in his death.
Incident Details
The tragic incident occurred at approximately 7:55 PM at the Grodzisk Mazowiecki station. Preliminary investigations suggest the man entered the tracks in a prohibited area and was struck by the Kraków – Gdynia passenger train as it passed under a pedestrian overpass.
Emergency services, including three fire crews from Grodzisk Mazowiecki and the local volunteer fire department, responded immediately. However, the man sustained extensive injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, precluding any medical intervention.
Emergency Response and Evacuation
Approximately 120 passengers were on board the train at the time of the incident and were evacuated by firefighters. Police, under the supervision of the prosecutor, are conducting an investigation and collecting evidence to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy.
Disruption to Rail Traffic
The incident caused disruptions to rail traffic, with one track towards Warsaw blocked. This blockage may affect the schedules of trains passing through Grodzisk Mazowiecki station.
PKP Statement
PKP (Polish State Railways) reported that the incident involved train 3592/3 (RegioJet a.s.) traveling from Kraków Główny to Gdynia Główna. Passengers should expect delays of approximately 10 minutes. PKP has apologized for the inconvenience.
