Tram Derailment on Wola Paralyzes Major Intersection

A line 22 tram derailed around 3:00 PM at the intersection of Towarowa and Chłodna streets in Warsaw’s Wola district, causing significant traffic disruption, though no injuries were reported.

Incident Details and Cleanup

The derailment occurred on a straight section of the track, with one of the tram’s bogies coming off the rails in the middle of the intersection. Fortunately, there were no injuries among passengers or bystanders.

Emergency crews from Tramwaje Warszawskie are currently working on-site to re-rail the vehicle. Tram traffic remains blocked, and transit through the intersection is heavily restricted.

Service Disruptions and Route Changes

Technical issues have forced the suspension or rerouting of lines 1, 13, 20, 22, 23, 24, 26, and 27. Warsaw Transport Authority (WTP) has implemented emergency diversions for all affected routes.

Lines 1, 22, and 24 are being diverted through Al. Jerozolimskie and Grójecka to reach their destinations, while other lines are navigating through alternative thoroughfares such as Młynarska, Wolska, and Al. Jana Pawła II.

Replacement Transit Services

To assist commuters, a replacement bus line labeled ZA TRAMWAJ has been launched. The bus operates a loop service connecting Okopowa to Pl. Zawiszy via Towarowa, Prosta, and Żelazna streets.

The exact causes and circumstances surrounding the derailment are currently under investigation by Tramwaje Warszawskie.
