Tram Hits Pedestrian on Obozowa Street; Bemowo-Bound Lines Blocked

A pedestrian was hospitalized with a head injury after being struck by a line 23 tram at the intersection of Obozowa and Ciołka streets in Warsaw on Thursday, May 28.

The Accident Details

The incident occurred at approximately 1:49 PM on a pedestrian crossing. Preliminary findings indicate the man stumbled and fell while crossing the tracks. As he attempted to stand up, he was struck by a passing tram.

Emergency medical services, police, and traffic control units were dispatched to the scene. After receiving initial treatment, the victim was transported to a hospital with a head injury.

Intoxication and Investigation

Police officers conducted sobriety tests on those involved. The tram operator was sober. Testing of the pedestrian revealed a blood alcohol level of approximately 1.5 per mille.

Officers from the Road Traffic Department are conducting further investigations into the incident. The collision resulted in a total blockage of tram traffic heading toward Bemowo and Boernerowo.

Operational Disruptions

Warsaw Public Transport (WTP) reported significant service disruptions affecting lines 20, 23, and 24. These lines were diverted, and shuttle buses were deployed to cover the route.

Line 20 was split into two loops, while lines 23 and 24 were rerouted via Al. Solidarności, Wolska, Połczyńska, and Powstańców Śląskich. A temporary bus service, labeled “Z,” was launched to operate between Nowe Bemowo and Okopowa to accommodate affected passengers.
