Following the scheduled completion of track works at the Towarowa and Grzybowska intersection, Warsaw’s tram lines 1, 22, and 24 will resume service on Saturday, May 30, while simultaneously marking the start of major infrastructure upgrades on Al. Jerozolimskie.
Tramway infrastructure improvements on Towarowa
Track renovation at the Towarowa and Grzybowska junction has concluded on schedule. Passengers will now benefit from rebuilt stops near the Warsaw Uprising Museum that meet current accessibility standards, while drivers will enjoy a smoother crossing over the tracks.
The project, coordinated with city road works, included replacing the existing track structure with a ballastless design and installing new drainage. This represents the 12th successfully completed project in the annual maintenance plan managed by Tramwaje Warszawskie.
Service adjustments and temporary disruption
To facilitate the final removal of a temporary crossover at Rondo Daszyńskiego, tram service on Towarowa will be suspended between Rondo Kercelak and Plac Zawisza on Friday, May 29. During this window, tram lines 1 and 74 will not operate, and replacement bus line Z-1 will run on an extended route to maintain connectivity.
On Saturday, May 30, full service returns to Towarowa with lines 1, 22, 24, and 27. Temporary lines 71, 72, and 74 will be permanently decommissioned as the network returns to its planned operational capacity.
Major maintenance project on Al. Jerozolimskie
Also starting May 30, Tramwaje Warszawskie will launch its most significant repair project of the year: the overhaul of tracks along Al. Jerozolimskie. This major maintenance work, the first in decades, involves replacing rails from Plac Starynkiewicza to Rondo De Gaulle’a and refurbishing stops along the route.
The project is coordinated with city road authorities to manage drainage and expansion joint repairs on the Poniatowski Bridge viaduct. To mitigate traffic impact, a dynamic lane management system will be piloted for the first time, opening specific internal lanes to outbound traffic during afternoon peak hours.
