Trees Downed, Disrupting Warsaw Tram Service

Strong winds toppled trees onto tram tracks on Jagiellońska Street in Warsaw around 8 PM on April 5th, causing significant service disruptions.

Storm Damage Halts Tram Traffic

On April 5th, before 8 PM, strong winds during a storm caused two trees to fall and severely damage the tram power lines on Jagiellońska Street, near the former FSO factory. Firefighters and Warsaw Tramways technical services were dispatched to the scene, and tram traffic was suspended, replaced by bus service.

One tree fell onto another, breaking it, and both then collapsed onto the overhead tram network. This resulted in serious damage to the power infrastructure.

Emergency Response and Securing the Area

Firefighters and tramway personnel worked together to secure the damaged power lines and remove branches obstructing the lines. Once these tasks were completed, Warsaw Tramways technicians could begin repairing the infrastructure.

Service Disruption and Bus Replacement

The damage was extensive enough to halt tram service in the area. Tram lines were diverted, and replacement bus service was launched on the Żerań FSO – Jagiellońska – Cyryla i Metodego – Targowa – Dw. Wileński 05 – Jagiellońska – Żerań FSO route.

Extended Repair Timeline

Initial estimates suggest that repairing the power lines could take until morning, meaning disruptions to public transport in this part of Praga-Północ may continue for many hours.

Risk of Falling Trees to Infrastructure

The strong wind highlighted the threat falling trees pose to urban infrastructure. Immediate securing of the area and suspension of tram traffic were necessary to safely remove branches and begin repairs.

Passenger Information and Route Changes

Passengers should expect changes to traffic organization and longer travel times in the Jagiellońska Street area during the technical work and repairs.
