A truck became wedged in a tunnel on Jerusalem Avenue in Warsaw early this morning, blocking traffic for several hours and prompting a police search for the driver.
Early Morning Disruption on Jerusalem Avenue
Significant traffic disruptions occurred on Jerusalem Avenue in Warsaw’s Ochota district in the early hours of the morning after a truck driver entered a tunnel leading towards Prymas Tysiąclecia Avenue and became stuck.
The incident occurred around 5:00 AM. The DAF tractor unit with a trailer reportedly disregarded signage and entered the tunnel connecting Jerusalem Avenue and Prymas Tysiąclecia Avenue, completely blocking passage.
Emergency Response and Traffic Management
Police and fire services were dispatched to the scene. Authorities worked for several hours to remove the truck from the tunnel, resulting in a prolonged closure and traffic congestion.
Driver Abandoned Vehicle
According to reports from the scene, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot before police arrived. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
Recurring Issue in the Area
This is not the first such incident in the area. In late November 2025, another truck ignoring height restrictions at the tunnel entrance caused its closure and extensive traffic jams on Jerusalem Avenue.
Critical Traffic Junction
The area is a known bottleneck in Warsaw’s road network, and any tunnel blockage immediately impacts traffic flow. Even a single incident can quickly lead to severe congestion on one of the capital’s main arteries.
Driver Apprehended, Tunnel Remains Blocked
“The driver who blocked the entrance to the Jerusalem Avenue tunnel under the Zesłańców Syberyjskich roundabout has been detained. The 22-year-old abandoned his truck after the incident, but Ochota police quickly located him. Passage through the tunnel towards Warsaw’s Wola remains blocked.”
Ongoing Police Activity and Detour Information
“Police from the capital’s traffic department are conducting operations at the scene. The lane leading to the tunnel entrance remains closed. Drivers can use the left lane towards the flyover above the roundabout and the city center, or the right lane leading to the Zesłańców Syberyjskich roundabout. Police are directing traffic at the roundabout” – reports the Capital Police Headquarters.
