Donald Trump claimed Ukraine’s offers of assistance against Iran are for political gain, and stated cooperation with Zelensky is harder than with Putin.
Trump’s Claims on Ukraine and Iran
During a 15-minute phone call with MS NOW’s Stephanie Ruhle, former President Donald Trump asserted that Ukraine has not genuinely assisted in countering Iran. He stated that any claims by President Zelensky regarding Ukrainian aid are “solely for political purposes and image.”
Trump also criticized Zelensky, suggesting he is more difficult to work with than Vladimir Putin. He further criticized NATO countries for refusing to send ships to secure the Strait of Hormuz, labeling the alliance a “paper tiger” and claiming Putin is unafraid of Europe.
Ukraine’s Offers of Support to the U.S.
Ukrainian officials have indicated they received inquiries from the U.S. regarding support for its armed forces in the region. Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, confirmed Ukraine has deployed units to intercept drones in five Middle Eastern countries.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the U.S. requests for “expert support” and noted that Ukraine is also considering proposals from European partners with forces stationed in the region.
Proposed Drone Deal with the U.S.
Zelenskyy revealed Ukraine proposed a drone agreement to the U.S. a year ago, encompassing not only interceptor drones but also naval and long-range drones proven in combat. The proposal includes knowledge sharing and training.
Zelenskyy expressed his willingness to sign the agreement with the U.S. once President Trump is ready, stating that the Ukrainian negotiating team will discuss the matter during a meeting in the U.S.
