Trump and Zelensky Confirm Energy Ceasefire, Kremlin Silent

President Trump confirms he secured a week-long energy ceasefire from Putin during extreme cold in Ukraine, with Zelensky verifying negotiations.

Ceasefire for Extreme Cold

President Donald Trump stated that he requested a week-long energy ceasefire with Ukraine from Vladimir Putin due to extreme cold conditions. “Personally, I asked President Putin not to attack Kyiv and other cities for a week, and he agreed. It was very nice. I was told not to waste time on the phone, but he agreed. I am very happy,” the US president reported.

Volodymyr Zelenski confirmed that the Ukrainian delegation raised this issue during peace negotiations in the United Arab Emirates. “Such de-escalation steps contribute to moving towards ending the war,” stated the Ukrainian president.

Energy is the Basis of Life

Ukrainian and Russian military bloggers reported on a possible energy ceasefire. Their online posts were confirmed by Donald Trump, who stated he discussed the matter with Vladimir Putin and that Putin agreed to stop shelling Ukrainian energy facilities for several days.

“This is an important statement by President Trump to protect Kyiv and other cities from Russian strikes during winter cold. Energy is the basis of life, and we appreciate the efforts of our partners who help us protect lives,” stated Volodymyr Zelenski. “Teams discussed this in the Emirates. We hope the agreement will be respected,” added the Ukrainian leader.

Kremlin Silent on Ceasefire

Before Donald Trump’s statement, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, when asked about an energy ceasefire, said that “for now, he cannot say anything on this matter.” Currently, major Russian media are only reporting that Trump asked Putin for a ceasefire, but there is no information on the Kremlin’s position.
