Trump Announces 5,000 More US Troops for Poland; Tusk Credits Nawrocki

Following President Donald Trump’s decision to deploy 5,000 additional US troops to Poland, Prime Minister Donald Tusk praised the collaborative effort of Polish and American officials in securing the military reinforcement.

Tusk Acknowledges Collective Effort

On Friday morning, Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated on X that the decision regarding the presence of US troops is positive news for both nations. He thanked President Karol Nawrocki, government ministers, congressmen, and Polish allies in the US for their effective and unified action.

President Donald Trump announced the deployment on Thursday, citing his electoral support for Karol Nawrocki and their strong relationship as factors in the decision. Trump did not provide specific operational details regarding the move.

Military Implementation and Strategic Outlook

Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz confirmed the news at the Sejm, noting that the Pentagon and US commanders in Europe are now moving into the implementation phase. He emphasized that the decision resulted from a determined diplomatic and military offensive involving the President, the National Security Bureau, and the government.

Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz clarified that while Poland benefits from the redeployment, the specifics of troop placement remain under US control. Meanwhile, Reuters reported that the Pentagon has canceled separate plans to rotate 4,000 troops into Poland, following a previous announcement to withdraw 5,000 soldiers from Germany.

Sikorski’s Assessment of Troop Rotations

Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, speaking in Helsingborg, thanked President Trump and US officials, stating that the American presence in Poland will remain at approximately current levels. He noted that Poland’s commitment to defense spending has strengthened its international reputation.

Jacek Najder, Poland’s permanent representative to NATO, is currently working on the technical details of the arrangement while maintaining close contact with his American counterparts.
