Trump Calls for Immediate Negotiations on Greenland at Davos Forum

President Trump demanded immediate negotiations to acquire Greenland during his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 21.

Trump’s Security Claims

Donald Trump on Wednesday, January 21, delivered a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos. At one point, the US president addressed the situation in Greenland. “No country – besides the US – is capable of securing Greenland. We are a great power, greater than people can comprehend. You know what happened in Venezuela two weeks ago,” said the Republican.

Military Bases Established for Denmark

The president then stated that US military bases were established in Greenland to protect the island for Denmark. “We fought to protect Greenland for Denmark,” said Trump.

Demand for Greenland Acquisition

The politician also informed that the US wants “immediate negotiations” to discuss the issue of acquiring Greenland. “I have spoken with leaders and residents of Greenland, whom I adore, they are great, but they know that only the US is capable of defending this great piece of ice, it is beneficial for Europe. And therefore I call for immediate negotiations to determine the possibilities and conditions for the US to take over Greenland. After all, there is nothing wrong with that,” said Trump.

NATO Assurance

According to the US president, “this will not pose a threat to NATO.” “On the contrary – it will strengthen its security,” he assessed.
