Trump’s Assertion of Iranian Request
Former President Trump, via Truth Social, stated that the “new Iranian regime, far less radical and much more intelligent than its predecessors,” requested a ceasefire from the United States. He indicated a willingness to consider it once the Strait of Hormuz is open and navigable, otherwise threatening to push Iran “back to the Stone Age.”
The White House announced Trump would address the nation with “important information on Iran” on Wednesday at 9 PM EST. Earlier, Trump predicted a two-to-three-week operation against Iran and suggested Iranians desire a deal with the U.S.
Strait of Hormuz and Military Posturing
Trump stated the Strait of Hormuz would be secure after the U.S. operation concludes, asserting the U.S. would have no further involvement and that countries utilizing the strait should unblock it. He affirmed ongoing U.S. talks with Iran while simultaneously considering further military options and deploying additional forces to the region.
Iran’s Denial
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson dismissed Trump’s claims as untrue, stating Iran seeks not a ceasefire but an end to the conflict. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had previously stated Iran does not seek a ceasefire, but an end to the war.

Al Jazeera’s correspondent in Tehran, Ali Hashem, questioned the notion of a “new Iranian regime,” asserting the current structure remains the same with different faces. He inquired whether Trump is in contact with President Masoud Pezeshkian and if Pezeshkian requested the ceasefire.
