Trump Clarifies Iran Ceasefire Excludes Hezbollah, Israel Strikes

U.S. President Donald Trump stated Wednesday that the Iran ceasefire agreement does not encompass Lebanon or Israeli actions against Hezbollah.

Trump on the Scope of the Ceasefire

President Donald Trump, in a Wednesday interview with PBS, clarified that the ceasefire agreement with Iran does not include Lebanon or Israeli attacks targeting objectives linked to the pro-Iranian organization Hezbollah, describing it as a “separate fight.”

Trump’s comments came in response to continued Israeli military strikes against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon. During a brief phone conversation with PBS, the U.S. President reiterated that the ceasefire does not extend to Lebanon, attributing this exclusion to “Hezbollah.”

Assurances Regarding Israel’s Right to Attack

“They were not included in the deal. We’ll take care of that too, it’s okay,” Trump assured, as quoted by the station’s journalist, emphasizing that the agreed-upon ceasefire acknowledges Israel’s right to continue attacks.

“It’s a separate fight, okay?” Trump added.

Iranian Response to Continued Israeli Strikes

Initial reports indicated that the two-week ceasefire brokered by the U.S. and Iran would also cover Israeli attacks on Hezbollah. However, the Israeli army continued its military operations against the pro-Iranian militant group on Wednesday.

The Iranian news agency Fars reported that, due to this “violation” of the ceasefire, Iran has suspended the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
