US President Trump considering military options against Iran after Tehran allegedly threatened assassination.
Trump Pushes for Iran Response Options
President Trump is pressing his advisors to present options for responding to Iran, including removing regime leaders and attacking Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targets.
Officials emphasize Trump wants decisive actions, though no attack order has been issued. The Wall Street Journal notes ongoing discussions about punishing Tehran for killing protesters.
Iran Warns of Military Response
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragcchi warns his country will respond to any military intervention with full force from its powerful armed forces.
Aragcchi stated, “This is not a threat, but reality,” adding as a veteran diplomat he dislikes war, but a full confrontation would be fierce and affect ordinary people worldwide.
Alleged Iranian Assassination Plot
Former Attorney General Merrick Garland revealed Iran allegedly threatened to assassinate Trump during the 2024 presidential campaign as revenge for the 2020 killing of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani.
Trump responded by saying, “If anything happens to me, the whole country will be blown up, Iran will be wiped off the face of the earth,” criticizing Biden for not responding to these threats.
