Kosiniak-Kamysz: U.S. Strength Relies on NATO
Kosiniak-Kamysz noted previous distractions, such as discussions regarding Greenland, and expressed hope for a calming of emotions regarding Trump’s statements. He emphasized that the U.S. requires NATO as much as NATO requires the U.S.
European Defense Capabilities
The Minister of National Defence stressed the importance of Europe rapidly developing its own defense capabilities, particularly through the EU’s SAFE program, to become a “true partner in the field of military security” for the U.S. He pledged to prioritize this effort.
Patriot Systems to Remain in Poland
Kosiniak-Kamysz reiterated his previous statement that Poland’s Patriot missile defense systems will remain in the country and will not be redeployed. This was in response to reports that the U.S. was exploring the possibility of Poland sending the equipment to the Middle East.
He clarified that the Polish Patriot systems are intended for the defense of Polish airspace and NATO’s eastern flank, and that allies understand this.
Maintaining Transatlantic Relations and European Unity
Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized the need for Poland to continue building transatlantic relationships, strengthening the European Union, and maintaining resilience in the face of fluctuating political statements. He noted the increasingly short lifespan of political declarations and the importance of a consistent focus on national security.
