Donald Trump plans a Peace Council requiring $1 billion for permanent membership, with him as chairman.
Peace Council Statute
A draft statute obtained by Bloomberg reveals Donald Trump is proposed as the first chairman, deciding on other members. Decisions require a majority vote, each member having one vote, but final approval rests with the chairman. Membership terms cannot exceed three years, renewable by the chairman. The statute mandates a three-year term for members contributing $1 billion to the council.
Alternative to UN?
The Peace Council is described as an international organization promoting stability, lawful governance, and lasting peace in conflict areas. Critics, per Bloomberg, suggest Trump aims to create a UN competitor. An unnamed U.S. official confirmed access is free, but the $1 billion fee ensures permanent membership, funds earmarked for Gaza reconstruction.
White House: No Minimum Fee
The White House denied the $1 billion fee is required for entry, stating in an X post: “There is no minimum fee to join the Peace Council.” It confirmed Bloomberg’s report, adding the fee “simply enables permanent membership for countries demonstrating deep commitment to peace, security, and prosperity.”
Israel Pushes Back; U.S.: “This Is Our Show”
The White House announced Gaza council members include Secretary of State Marco Rubio, former UK PM Tony Blair, Trump envoy Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, Marc Rowan, World Bank President Ajay Banga, and advisor Robert Gabriel. The Gaza executive board includes Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Qatari diplomat Ali Al-Thawadi. Israel objects, with Netanyahu stating the U.S.-published list wasn’t consulted. An unnamed U.S. official retorted: “This is our show… We’ve done things in Gaza no one thought possible.”
