On Friday, Donald Trump criticized Europe, calling it “woke” and mentioning Poland in the context of nations taking a different path.
Trump Calls Europe “Woke”
Donald Trump commented on relations with Europe on Friday, February 20th, following the Supreme Court’s decision to invalidate most of his tariffs. “I want Europe to be strong. Europe has become woke. Europe is unrecognizable,” he stated at a press conference.
The term “woke” refers to a socio-political concept addressing social issues like racism, inequality, discrimination, and systemic injustice, used critically by some American right-wing circles.
Two Policies Killing Europe
“Europe must be strong, but it is becoming weak and unrecognizable. You go to certain countries… I don’t want to name them specifically, but I think everyone knows what I’m talking about. They are unrecognizable, taken over by environmentalists. Wind turbines are destroying their fields, beautiful meadows, and oceans. They pay a fortune for it,” said the U.S. president.
Trump highlighted countries that “went in a completely different direction,” naming Hungary, Poland, Czechia, and Slovakia. He stated Europe must “get smarter” because two policies will kill it: energy policy and immigration policy.
Supreme Court Rules Trump Broke Law
In 2025, Donald Trump imposed tariffs on nearly every country globally, including China, Mexico, Canada, the European Union, Asian, and African nations, citing special presidential powers in emergencies.
The Supreme Court ruled on Friday, February 20th, that Donald Trump violated federal law. The same day, the U.S. president issued a statement, calling the ruling “deeply disappointing” and expressing shame for some Court members. Trump also announced plans to impose new, global 10% tariffs.
