Trump Demands “Immediate Negotiations” in Davos Over Greenland

President Trump called for “immediate negotiations” on US acquisition of Greenland during Davos speech, citing security and development benefits.

Trump Spoke About Greenland in Davos

Donald Trump on Wednesday, January 21, gave a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos. At one point, the US president addressed the situation in Greenland, stating that only the US can protect the island. He emphasized US as a great power greater than people comprehend, referencing events in Venezuela. Trump suggested creating US military bases in Greenland would be a favor to Denmark and assured he doesn’t want to use force to gain the island.

USA Want “Immediate Negotiations”

Trump stated that only the US can defend Greenland’s vast territory of land and ice, develop it, and make it beneficial for both Europe and the US. He demanded immediate negotiations to reconsider the US acquisition of Greenland, noting similar territorial acquisitions have occurred in history and there’s nothing wrong with that.

“You Wouldn’t Have NATO If I Hadn’t Been Involved”

Trump claimed US takeover of Greenland wouldn’t threaten NATO but would strengthen its security. He accused NATO of treating the US unfairly, stating the US gave much and received little in return. Trump asserted he did more to help NATO than any other president, noting that without his involvement during his first term, “you wouldn’t have NATO.” He added that NATO “has a choice” regarding Greenland, saying they could say “yes” and the US would be grateful or “no” and “we will remember it.”
