President Trump confirms he is considering a limited military strike on Iran to pressure over nuclear program.
Trump Considers Limited Attack
President Donald Trump admitted on Friday that he does not rule out carrying out a limited attack on Iran. The politician would like to exert pressure in this way on the country regarding the development of its nuclear program.
“I think I can say that I am considering such a possibility,” admitted Trump in conversation with journalists. A day earlier, on Thursday, the US president declared that he would make a decision on possible military actions within 10-15 days.
Wall Street Journal Reports
The newspaper “Wall Street Journal” earlier reported that Donald Trump is considering a limited military strike on Iran, which could occur within a few days.
According to the newspaper’s information, the plan calls for strikes on selected military or government targets in Iran. The attack would create greater pressure on the authorities in Tehran but would not lead to a full-scale war.
However, if Tehran continues to refuse to stop uranium enrichment, Washington could consider a broad campaign against regime targets, potentially aimed at weakening or changing it.
Potential Iranian Response
Some American analysts warn that even a limited strike could provoke Iranian retaliation, drawing the United States into a conflict in the Middle East and endangering allies in the region.
Iran Prepares for Possible Attack
Iranian authorities are preparing for a potential attack from the United States. Iran’s Ambassador to the UN Amir Saeed Iravani emphasized that while his country “does not seek tensions and will not start any war,” it “will respond decisively and proportionally if it becomes the target of military aggression.”
On Friday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi spoke by telephone with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov. Russia announced that it supports the negotiation process between Washington and Tehran regarding Iran’s nuclear program.
Meanwhile, joint military exercises by the navies of Iran and Russia are underway in the Strait of Hormuz, the Gulf of Oman, and the Indian Ocean. They take place annually and usually also involve China, which this time did not send its military.
