Trump Doubts Mojtaba Khamenei’s Survival, Threatens New Strikes

US President Trump expressed uncertainty about Iran’s new leader Mojtaba Khamenei’s survival in an NBC interview, while signaling potential new military actions.

Uncertainty Over Iran’s New Leader

US President Donald Trump stated in an NBC News interview that he is unsure whether Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, is still alive. Trump added that if Khamenei is alive, he should “do something very smart for his country, which is to surrender.” The 56-year-old Mojtaba Khamenei replaced his father, Ali Khamenei, who was killed on the first day of US-Israeli airstrikes on March 8.

Trump highlighted Khamenei’s absence from public view, fueling doubts about his capacity to lead.

Iran Ceasefire Conditions and Threats

Although Tehran signals a willingness to negotiate a ceasefire, Trump stated the conditions are not yet sufficient. “Iran wants to make a deal, and I don’t want to do it because the conditions are not yet good enough,” he emphasized, requiring any agreement to be “very solid.”

Regarding recent airstrikes on Iran’s strategic Chark Island in the Persian Gulf, Trump claimed its infrastructure was “completely destroyed.” He asserted US forces could strike it “several more times, just for fun,” though he noted they deliberately spared Iranian transmission infrastructure to avoid prolonged reconstruction.

Comments on Ukraine War

Trump criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zeleskyy, asserting it is “much harder to make a deal with him” than with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. He rejected Ukraine’s offer of help countering Iranian drones, stating Zeleskyy is “the last person we need help from.”

US-Israel Conflict with Iran

The war between the USA, Israel, and Iran has been ongoing since February 28. Israel and USA have conducted airstrikes on Iran, which has responded by targeting Israel and other Middle Eastern nations, striking both US military bases and civilian infrastructure.
