President Trump defended the US military operation in Iran as a necessary action to eliminate an existential threat.
Trump’s Medal Ceremony
On March 2, President Trump awarded the Medal of Honor to Staff Sergeant Michael H. Ollis, who died in 2013 shielding Polish Captain Karol Cierpica. Other recipients included Staff Sergeant Roderick (Roddie) W. Edmonds (posthumously) and Staff Sergeant Terry P. Richardson.
Trump’s Justification for Iran Operation
Trump stated that an Iranian regime armed with long-range weapons and nuclear capabilities would pose a huge threat not only to the Middle East but also to Americans. He called the operation “our last best chance” to strike and eliminate the threat.
Operation Timeline
The president noted that the operation is planned to last 4-5 weeks, but the US military has the capability to extend it significantly longer if needed.
Trump’s Strong Rhetoric
In a CNN interview, Trump declared that the US would “break Iran into pieces.” He expressed surprise at Iran’s counterattack on Arab countries in the region, suggesting the operation could last about four more weeks. “We haven’t even started hitting them hard yet. The great wave is coming soon,” he stated.
US and Israeli Military Actions
US Central Command (CENTCOM) launched “Epic Fury” operation on February 28, with the goal of overthrowing the Iranian regime and eliminating Iranian military facilities. Four American soldiers were killed during the operation. Meanwhile, Israel began “Roaring Lion” operation, stating that the Iranian regime continues to pose an existential threat to Israel.
Escalating Middle East Violence
A spiral of violence is escalating in the Middle East as the situation continues to develop.
