Trump Presses Ukraine Deal: “If They Don’t Agree, They’re Stupid”

Trump claims Ukraine and Russia are close to a peace deal, saying they would be “stupid” not to reach an agreement during his Davos appearance.

Trump’s Ukraine War Comments

During his appearance in Davos, Donald Trump addressed the war in Ukraine, stating that “it never should have happened.” He claimed the 2020 U.S. elections concluded with fraud and that charges related to this will soon be filed. Trump also emphasized that the United States “has nothing to do with Ukraine.”

Peace Negotiations Progress

“I’m sorry to say this, I ended more than eight wars, some in a few hours, and I thought this would be one of the simplest,” Trump said. He added that the UN, not him, should handle this situation. The U.S. president noted there is “huge, abnormal hatred” between Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky, but stated that both Russia and Ukraine want to negotiate and are close to an agreement.

Trump-Zelensky Davos Meeting

Trump said he would meet with Zelensky in Davos on Wednesday, though sources suggested the meeting might occur on Thursday. Zelensky had previously indicated he would travel to Davos only if documents regarding Ukrainian peace and security guarantees were ready. The Ukrainian president stressed that meetings with Americans should always result in concrete outcomes to strengthen Ukraine.
