Trump Responds to Polish Proposal on US Troop Relocation from Germany

During a press briefing on Friday, Donald Trump addressed Polish proposals regarding the relocation of US troops from Germany to Poland and commented on the Russia-Ukraine ceasefire.

Trump Responds to Poland’s Troop Proposal

President Donald Trump addressed a Polish proposal to move US soldiers from Germany to Poland during a conversation with journalists. He noted that Poland would welcome the move and emphasized his excellent relationship with President Karol Nawrocki, whom he previously supported.

When asked if he would execute the transfer, Trump stated it was “possible” and replied “maybe.”

Commentary on Russia-Ukraine Ceasefire

Trump also commented on the three-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine during Victory Day. He claimed the initiative was his own rather than Vladimir Putin’s, stating that both leaders agreed to it easily.

Regarding further negotiations, Trump indicated he would consider sending a team to Moscow if he deemed it helpful for a more permanent peace.

Polish Defense Ministry Readiness

Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak Kamysz emphasized that the Polish-American alliance is the foundation of national security. He stated via X that Poland is ready to host more US troops to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank and better protect Europe.

Infrastructure and Strategic Deployment

Karol Nawrocki previously declared that Poland possesses the necessary infrastructure to receive US troops if their presence in Germany is reduced. He argued that a larger US military presence in Europe benefits the Baltic, Central, and Eastern European regions regardless of political views.

While Trump previously announced the withdrawal of more than 5,000 troops from Germany, Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted that no final decisions have been made regarding the matter.
