US President Trump published a text from French President Macron questioning his actions on Greenland.
Trump Shows Macron’s Message
President of the United States published on Truth Social a screenshot that allegedly shows an SMS sent to him by French President Emmanuel Macron. CNN noted that it could not verify the authenticity of the message. Reuters, however, reported on Tuesday that a source close to the Élysée Palace admitted that the message is authentic.
Donald Trump wrote: “Message from French President Emmanuel Macron.” “My friend, we are completely in agreement on Syria. We can do great things regarding Iran. I don’t understand what you’re doing in Greenland” – it reads.
Macron proposed convening a G7 summit in Paris after the Economic Forum in Davos, saying he could additionally invite Ukrainians, Danes, Syrians, and Russians.
Macron’s Criticism
CNN reminded that in recent days the French president described Trump’s tariff threat regarding his plans to take over Greenland as “unacceptable” and rejected Trump’s invitation to join the “Peace Council” to oversee the reconstruction of Gaza.
Asked about Macron’s rejection of the invitation, Trump replied: “Nobody wants him” and stated that he would impose high tariffs on French wine.
Trump Proposes Peace Council
US President Donald Trump is seeking to have his Peace Council project approved by world leaders during a special ceremony at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Bloomberg reported that this is to take place on Thursday, January 22.
Trump invited heads of state and government of various countries to sign the statute on that day. The short deadline caused politicians around the world to frantically consider how to respond to what appears to be an attempt to create a Donald Trump-dominated alternative to the United Nations.
Their concerns are raised by the broad powers the statute would grant to Donald Trump himself, as well as a membership fee of one billion dollars for permanent membership. Simply joining as a non-permanent member would not involve costs, with such terms lasting for three years.
“This council will be unique, nothing like it has ever existed before” – Donald Trump wrote in letters to world leaders.
Global Response
The Peace Council will include representatives from about 60 countries and organizations, including leaders of Poland, France, Germany, Italy, Canada, Russia, Belarus, Turkey, as well as representatives from the Middle East region.
Most European leaders have not decided whether they want to join it.
