Trump Threatens Iran with Power Plant Destruction, Issues Strait of Hormuz Ultimatum

Former U.S. President Donald Trump threatened Iran with the destruction of its power plants and issued an ultimatum regarding the Strait of Hormuz on Monday.

Trump’s Threat to Iran

Donald Trump stated the United States is engaged in “serious negotiations” with a “NEW AND MORE REASONABLE REGIME” in Tehran to end military actions in Iran.

He warned that if an agreement isn’t reached quickly, and the Strait of Hormuz isn’t immediately opened to shipping, the U.S. will “finish our lovely stay in Iran, blowing up and totally destroying all of their power plants, oil rigs, and the Island of Khark (and maybe all of their water desalination plants!), which they haven’t touched yet.”

Ultimatum and Retaliation Justification

Trump framed the threat as retaliation for “many (American) soldiers and others that Iran has massacred and killed over the past 47 years” under the current Tehran leadership.

Temporary Halt to Attacks and Ongoing Talks

Trump previously announced a pause on attacks against Iranian power plants until April 6th, and claimed progress in talks aimed at ending the conflict that began on February 28th.

Iranian Denial of Direct Talks

Iranian leaders have denied engaging in direct negotiations with the United States, according to Reuters.

Escalation of Conflict

The current conflict originated with a U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran, which responded with attacks on Israel, U.S. military bases, and the military and civilian infrastructure of neighboring countries.
