US President Donald Trump is set to speak with Polish President Andrzej Duda about the unprecedented breach of Polish airspace by Russian drones.
U.S. Reactions to Russian Drones Threatening Poland
Micah Johnson, a spokesperson for the White House, confirmed to PAP that Trump plans to discuss the incident with President Duda on the same day, September 10th. The incident has not gone unnoticed by the United States, with the White House monitoring developments in Poland closely. Trump plans to speak with Polish President Nawrocki later today.
NATO Article 4 Activation
Poland has formally requested that NATO activate Article 4 due to the repeated violations of its airspace by Russian drones. This was confirmed by NATO Secretary General Jen Stoltenberg. Poland’s Ambassador to NATO, Jacek Najder, submitted the request at a meeting of the ambassadors of NATO member countries in Brussels this week.
Polish Government Response
Following the meeting of the Operational Headquarters of the Council for Homeland Security, the Polish government announced on Polsat News that Poland has asked NATO to activate Article 4. Article 4 allows for collective consultations in the event of a security threat, potentially leading to joint decisions and military actions.
