Zelensky Denies Ukraine is Peace Obstacle
Ukraine was and never will be an obstacle to peace, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated in his evening address Thursday. He emphasized that Russian missiles, “Shaheds,” and attempts to destroy Ukraine prove Russia does not seek agreements. Zelensky highlighted Russian attacks targeting Ukraine’s energy system and citizens, leaving people without power for 20-30 hours. He stressed that pressure must be applied to Russia. Zelensky also announced plans to significantly intensify diplomatic efforts, both public and private.
Trump Claims Ukraine Less Prepared for Peace
US President Donald Trump said in a Reuters interview that Vladimir Putin is ready to make a peace deal. Trump assessed that Ukraine is less prepared for such an agreement. When asked what the obstacle to peace was, Trump stated it was “Zelenski.” He asserted that the US administration must “convince the Ukrainian president to agree.”
Putin Blames NATO, Seeks Mere Discussion
President Vladimir Putin declared on Thursday that the war in Ukraine is a “direct consequence” of NATO expansion towards Russia’s borders and “long-term ignoring of Russia’s legitimate interests.” He claimed Russia repeatedly proposed initiatives for a new European and global security architecture. Putin stated it is “worthwhile to return to substantive discussion” to find conditions for a peaceful resolution, adding “the sooner, the better.” Despite ongoing attacks on Ukrainian towns, Putin asserted his country seeks a “durable peace” ensuring security for all.
