Trump’s Afghanistan Remarks Draw Polish Rebuttal

Polish leaders reject call for apology after Trump questions NATO’s Afghanistan commitment, citing Polish military sacrifices.

Duda: No Apology Needed

Former Polish President Andrzej Duda commented on Donald Trump’s Afghanistan remarks, stating there’s nothing in the words that would justify an apology. Duda emphasized that Trump did not offend anyone and acknowledged the American military’s significant sacrifices in Afghanistan.

Duda admitted Trump’s statement was “unfortunate and awkward” but noted it’s positive that Polish authorities addressed the issue. He suggested those making the biggest fuss about the comments were those who recently disrespected the Polish military.

Nawrocki and Tusk Respond

Polish President Karol Nawrocki stressed that Polish soldiers are heroes who deserve the highest respect. He noted that 44 brave Poles, including 43 soldiers and one civilian, died in Afghanistan and “will forever remain in our memory.”

Prime Minister Donald Tusk recalled participating in 2011 in Ghazni, Afghanistan, in the farewell ceremony for five fallen Polish soldiers. The American officers present at the time said America would never forget Polish heroes, Tusk noted, adding that perhaps someone should remind President Trump of this.
