Trump’s Peace Council holds inaugural meeting in Washington as Europe watches with skepticism.
Trump’s High Hopes for Peace Council
On Thursday in Washington, the inaugural meeting of Trump’s Peace Council takes place. The White House anticipates high expectations for the body. In a social media post, Donald Trump declared, “The Peace Council will be the most important international body in history, and it is an honor for me to serve as its chairman.”
European Skepticism and Poland’s Observer Role
The proposal does not, however, convince European partners. Poland has downgraded its representation to the level of Minister Marcin Przydacze, who will attend the meeting solely as an observer, similar to European Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Šuica. Full membership would require initiating an accession procedure by the government, which is not currently planned.
