Trump’s Support Eroding in ‘His’ States

Donald Trump faces declining approval ratings in states he previously won, according to new polls.

Trump Losing Ground in Key States

According to The Economist, based on data from several YouGov polls, Donald Trump is beginning to lose support in states where he won in 2024. Despite his voters still positively evaluating his presidency in the majority, dissatisfaction with his presidency is becoming common even in states that supported him in the 2024 elections.

For example, as recently as 2024, more than 18% of South Dakota residents supported Donald Trump’s policies. Currently, this percentage has dropped to just 0.4%.

Negative Approval Trend Continues

The overall net approval rating for the president stands at -15%, which represents an increase of 2.2 percentage points compared to last week. According to The Economist’s summary, 41% of Americans approve of Trump’s actions, 56% disapprove, and 5% have no opinion.

Americans Assess Trump’s First Year

A CNN-commissioned poll conducted by SSRS in late January found that Americans view Trump’s first year of his second term as a failure, with 58% of respondents expressing this view. Only 36% of respondents stated that Trump properly set the priorities of his presidency.

The survey, conducted January 9-12 on a sample of 1,209 respondents, also revealed that one-third of Americans believe Trump cares about people like them. Additionally, 37% of respondents thought Trump prioritizes the country’s good over personal benefits, while 32% believed he understands the problems ordinary Americans face daily. Trump’s inauguration as US president took place on January 20, 2025.
