Tusk Accuses Orbán and Szijjártó of Leaving Europe

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk criticized Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó following reports of their communications with Russian officials.

Tusk’s Criticism of Orbán and Szijjártó

In a post on X, Prime Minister Donald Tusk commented on recent reports from Hungary. A group of journalists uncovered transcripts and audio recordings of conversations between Szijjártó and Lavrov, as well as other Russian officials.

“Hungary is and will remain in the European Union. Viktor Orbán and his Minister of Foreign Affairs have long left Europe,” Tusk wrote.

“Absolutely Disqualifying”

The Prime Minister also commented on these reports during a press conference on Wednesday, March 31st. He stated that the revelations confirmed a disturbing political dependence of Viktor Orbán’s government and Minister Szijjártó on Moscow.

“Nothing more disgusting could have been expected; it is absolutely disqualifying,” Tusk declared, repeating his words from the X post.

Irish Prime Minister Echoes Tusk

The Irish Prime Minister echoed Tusk’s sentiments during the joint press conference. He stated that Hungary is communicating with Russia against the will of Europe, raising serious concerns and signaling a problem for the European Union.

He added that this demonstrates the nature of the relationship between the Hungarian and Russian governments, describing it as sad and unacceptable.

Tusk Attacks PiS and President Nawrocki

Prime Minister Donald Tusk also attacked President Andrzej Duda and the opposition PiS party, along with its leader, Jarosław Kaczyński. He asserted that the firm and active support of PiS, Kaczyński, and Nawrocki for Viktor Orbán’s government, particularly before the Hungarian elections, constitutes political collaboration with Lavrov and Putin.

Tusk questioned whether some had underestimated his previous statements about PiS, President Nawrocki, and Kaczyński supporting Russia. He argued that supporting the most pro-Russian government in Europe is not a result of stupidity or blindness, but a conscious and dangerous act from the perspective of Poland’s interests and European security.
