Tusk and Starmer Sign Landmark Security and Defense Treaty

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer have signed a strategic treaty to deepen military cooperation, focusing on defense industry integration, cybersecurity, and countering Russian aggression.

The Scope of Strategic Cooperation

The treaty establishes a formal framework for collaboration between Warsaw and London, covering hybrid threats, disinformation, and illegal migration. It also prioritizes development in defense industries, maritime infrastructure security, energy, and public health.

Before his departure for the UK, Tusk noted that the agreement focuses on cutting-edge technologies, specifically mentioning air defense drones and advanced cybersecurity measures.

A Unified Stance Against Russia

The Polish government emphasized that the text of the treaty explicitly identifies Russia as a long-term strategic threat to Poland, the United Kingdom, and the NATO alliance.

Defense Industry and Military Integration

Downing Street reports that the agreement includes joint production of next-generation medium-range air defense missiles and the design of advanced air defense ammunition. The deal also mandates large-scale joint military exercises and serves to strengthen the United Kingdom’s broader cooperation with the European Union.

Starmer described the agreement as the most significant advancement in defense and security relations between the two nations in a generation. Poland signed a similar treaty regarding deepened cooperation and friendship with France in Nancy one year ago.
