Helsinki Announcement: Billion‑Pound Drone Wall
Donald Tusk said that from the outset of his premiership, securing Poland’s eastern flank has been “absolutely crucial for Poland’s security.” He announced that the country has begun building the “Eastern Shield,” investing “really billions of zlotys” into the project. The goal is to construct the most modern, effective anti‑drone wall, saturated with technology, to reduce the threat from Russia.
Eastern Flank Summit in Finland
The summit, held in Helsinki, gathers leaders of European Union countries on the Union’s eastern flank. Its purpose is to strengthen defense cooperation among nations at the EU’s eastern border. Participants include leaders from Bulgaria, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Romania, and Sweden. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk represents the Polish side.
Berlin Meeting: European Unity on Russia
During a Monday meeting in Berlin, Tusk noted that a key and difficult issue for Ukraine and all of Europe is the discussion of territorial annexations. He said that the real achievement of the talks was that the U.S., Ukraine and Europe finally sit together on one side.
