Tusk Calls President’s Crypto Veto “Evident” and Urges Urgent Action

Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk condemned the president’s veto of the crypto‑asset market bill, labeling the decision clear, dangerous and demanding swift legislative response.

President Vetoed Crypto Market Bill

The newly signed bill aimed to regulate Poland’s crypto‑asset market was vetoed by President Karol Nawrocki during the parliamentary vote. The veto was declared after the bill was presented for approval. The decision was announced in a meeting between Tusk and reporters.

Tusk Labels Veto “Evident” and “Disastrous”

Tusk described the matter as “evident” and warned that the law could endanger investors and ordinary citizens. He said the situation is “more bad‑natured than ever since 1989” and called the error “dangerous.” The prime minister feared the implications could spiral into wider social turmoil.

President’s Rationale: Excessive Regulation and Market Threats

Nawrocki’s justification cited the bill’s potential to curb freedom of Polish citizens, asset rights and national stability. He criticized the law for allowing the government to block online crypto firms with a single click, for opaque domain‑blocking rules that could lead to abuse, and for excessive scale with over a hundred sections. The president warned that the regulatory burden could drive firms abroad.

Tusk Urges Immediate Legislative Response

Despite questioning whether negotiations with the president were feasible, Tusk called for the parliament to move swiftly: “We will submit the bill shortly, and the president and opposition should not repeat such a bad decision.” He cited past delays as a reminder of the need for speed, and urged that the law not be overturned.
