Main suspect in Tusk’s Lexus theft may face additional charges as investigation links him to other car thefts.
Prosecutor’s New Information
Wirtualna Polska reported that the main suspect in the theft of a Lexus belonging to Donald Tusk’s family may face additional charges, also related to car thefts. So far, Łukasz W. has been charged with committing the crime of theft with burglary and the crime of using license plates not assigned to the vehicle on which they were placed.
He faces up to 10 years in prison. He did not admit to the acts he was accused of and exercised the right to refuse to give explanations. He remains in custody.
Now, a spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Gdańsk, Mariusz Duszyński, told the service that two other preliminary proceedings regarding “similar car thefts” have been joined to the investigation.
“There is a strong indication that the perpetrator of the thefts in the ongoing proceedings was Łukasz W.” Furthermore, copies of convicting judgments against Łukasz W. for property crimes have been obtained, on the basis of which deprivation of liberty sentences were imposed. The sentences were served under electronic monitoring conditions.
The analysis of the judgments indicates that Łukasz W. committed the crime he was accused of – theft by breaking into a Lexus car under the conditions of so-called recidivism, added Duszyński.
Background: Tusk’s Lexus Theft
On the night of September 9-10 last year, a family car was stolen from Donald Tusk’s home in Sopot. The vehicle was stolen despite 24-hour supervision by the State Protection Service.
The Lexus was eventually found in one of the parking lots in Gdańsk. In the case, 41-year-old Łukasz W. and 43-year-old Stefan N. were detained.
