Donald Tusk presented a ten-person team in Warsaw on Saturday to spearhead preparations for upcoming parliamentary elections.
National Council Meeting and Hungarian Elections
The national council of Civic Coalition (KO) convened in Warsaw on Saturday, comprising members of the national board, MPs, senators, MEPs, and delegates elected by regional councils.
During the open portion of the meeting, KO leader Donald Tusk referenced Sunday’s parliamentary elections in Hungary, emphasizing that if Hungarian opposition parties succeed, it will be because they united.
Openness to Cooperation
Tusk stated that Civic Coalition will remain open to any cooperation proposals, including with its coalition partners in the current government.
He added that any collaboration must be a willing choice, emphasizing a need for unity to counter threats beyond Poland’s borders.
One Condition for Coalition Partners
Tusk stipulated a single condition for cooperation with coalition partners: avoiding mutual attacks to prevent hindering any potential avenues for collaboration.
Lessons from Hungary
Tusk expressed confidence that the lessons from the Hungarian elections would be understood by all parties.
“The Ten” for Election Preparation
Tusk announced he has tasked ten individuals with preparing for the election campaign: Aleksandra Gajewska, Monika Rosa, Małgorzata Gromadzka, Cezary Tomczyk, Paweł Bliźniuk, Maciej Wróbel, Maciej Tomczykiewicz, Arkadiusz Marchewka, Andrzej Domański, and Adam Szłapka.
He noted that time will reveal who among them, or others, will best prepare and lead the campaign.
National Council to Elect Vice-Chairpersons
The closed session of the National Council will include the election of vice-chairpersons, following consultations and recommendations from the Prime Minister.
