On December 4, former Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk formally requested a closed session of the Sejm to present urgent information on the country’s security, citing Article 172 of the Parliament’s regulations.
Tusk’s Request
Donald Tusk wrote to Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty asking that the first Friday item of the Sejm be closed so he could present urgent information on the country’s security. The session will begin at 9 a.m.
Legal Grounding
Article 172 of the Sejm’s Rules allows the Presidium or at least thirty MPs to declare sessions secret if the national good requires it.
Polemics from the Cabinet
Prime Minister’s decision was criticised by Konfederacja MP Konrad Berkowicz, who wrote that citizens have a right to know what is being planned.
Last Secret Session Was in March
The most recent closed session, held in March, examined a motion to lift the immunity of former defence minister Mariusz Błaszczak.
Session Timing
The Friday session will commence at 9 a.m. as announced by Tusk.
